This Saturday, May 18th, sees our latest installment of THE COLD LEMONADE READING SERIES at the Sherman Playhouse from 8.00pm
With five more talented authors presenting 10 minute pieces read by a cast of actors, with discussion to follow this session looks to be as much fun as last month!
So, let’s find out who’s work will be featured this month
MICHAEL C. O’DAY is the Co-Creative Director of Naked Angels’ Tuesdays at Nine cold reading series in New York City, which is like Cold Lemonade but with exponentially more angry New Yorkers. His plays have been presented at the Playwrights’ Theater of East Hampton, Lower East Side Festival of the Arts, O.C. Play Festival, and the New York Fringe Festival. His latest, How to Pronounce Samhain, will be featured this coming June at the Valdez Theatre Conference.
JAMES ANTHONY MEROLLA was an English and American Literature major at Harvard University, a teacher, and a longtime theater director at various high schools, two colleges, and several community theater groups. As a four-decade newspaper reporter and editor, he has written some 13,000 stories for newspapers and magazines throughout New England, including hundreds of theater reviews of community and professional plays at Trinity Repertory Company, the GAMM, the Providence Performing Arts Center, and dozens more. He still writes several news stories a week for Newport This Week, while balancing a career as a social worker for impoverished clients in Massachusetts. He lives in Portsmouth, R.I.
MELVIN PERRY toiled for many years in the bowels of the Financial Industry. When freedom came, he turned to samizdat fiction – The Exquisite Corpse Boogies, The Impurgated Austin, Aesop’s Fables for the 21st Century, and My Guyana(a photo essay) available on amazon. He’s been writing plays for several years at workshops — Axial Theater Company (Pleasantville) and TW Playwrights(New Milford) and has had several produced.
And, of course, everything will be overseen by the multi-talented Morgana

So, what’s The Cold Lemonade Reading Series all about?
Every month the works of 5 local writers, selected in advance by host Morgana Kate Watson, are presented on the Sherman Playhouse stage as 10-minute extracts, read by a team of actors, followed by an opportunity for discussion of the pieces with the authors.
Authors – If you have a piece you’d like to have included in upcoming Cold Lemonade sessions, just contact Morgana at lemonade@shermanplayers.org. Also look out for our website and social media posts with info about submission deadlines.
Actors – if you want to flex your thespian muscles just turn up at 7pm on the night. Morgana will have scripts and will cast the lineup for each reading from who is present – just make sure she knows you are there. Simple as that! And while casting can’t be guaranteed for this session (roles aren’t unlimited, after all), don’t worry there will be more sessions for you to strut your stuff. In the meantime, sit back, relax, and enjoy a great night of theater!
The readings will commence at 8 pm.

What does it cost?
There’s no fixed amount for attending, though we encourage you to make a small donation at the door to help cover costs. We’ll have our usual range of concessions available too.
