The Sherman Players will hold open auditions for Michael Hollinger’s comedy RED HERRING

Audition Dates:
Sunday June 16 and Monday June 17 – 7.00 to 9.00 pm. (if you can’t make these dates, but still want to try out, please let us know)
Where:
The Sherman Playhouse, 5 Rt 39 N, Sherman CT, 06784 (located between the Fire House and Mallory Town Hall)
What to Expect:
No need to book an audition. Report to the Green Room at the rear of the Playhouse to sign-in.
Please prepare a two minute comedic monologue, which the director will work with you on.
If you don’t have a monologue, there will also be cold readings from the script.
Bring resume & headshot if you have them.
Performance Dates:
RED HERRING will run September 6 to 28, performances Fri, Sat (evenings) & Sun (matinees).
Rehearsal Schedule:
Rehearsals will be scheduled once cast availability is known. Frequency is typically 3 to 4 sessions per week, in the evenings, increasing nearer to show time.
The Sherman Players is a non-union, non-profit theatre company. We encourage all ethnicities and gender identities to audition.

Available Roles:
We are looking to cast six actors, three women and three men to play eighteen different roles.
Maggie Pelletier – (mid 30s) a detective for the Boston police force. Sharp, attractive lady cop. Intelligent, determined and self-assured. Always gets her man.
Frank Keller – (mid 30s) An FBI Agent on assignment in Boston. This actor will also play Priest, Major Hartwell, recorded voices as necessary.
Lynn McCarthy – (early 20s) The daughter of Joseph McCarthy; Perky, naïve but learning fast. This actor will also play Clerk, recorded voices as necessary.
James Appel – (early 20s) An American spy for Russia. Bright, all American boy next door. This actor will also play Woody, Harry, Bartender, Recorded voices as Necessary.
Mrs. Kravitz – (late 40s – early 50s) The landlord of the apartment. Crochety, busy body, Protective, minds her own business. This actor will also play Mrs. McCarthy, Mrs. Van Nostrand, Recorded voices as necessary.
Andrei Borchevsky – (late 40s – early 50s) A Russian spy. Secretive, quiet. This actor will also play Petey, Dr. Kasden, Herbert, Corpse, recorded voices as necessary.
Synopsis:
Three love stories, a murder mystery, and a nuclear espionage plot converge in this noir comedy about marriage and other explosive devices.
It’s 1952: America’s on the verge of the H-bomb, Dwight Eisenhower’s on the campaign trail, and I Love Lucy’s on Monday nights. Meanwhile, Senator Joe McCarthy’s daughter just got engaged to a Soviet spy, and Boston detective Maggie Pelletier has to find out who dumped the dead guy in the Harbor—or else lose out on a honeymoon in Havana.
A blunt-nosed, sharp-eyed look at love and tying (and untying, and retying) the knot.
